We’ve all felt stress when doing our job at one time or another. But if it becomes a regular occurrence, you need to find ways to reduce it. Here are 6 methods to help you do that.
- Take a Deep Breath
When the pressure is piling up and you feel the stress starting to build, it’s time to take some time out. Quite often, spending some time away from your workload, taking a deep breath and relaxing for a moment can help get you back on track. It acts as a break that puts things back into perspective by allowing you the chance to step outside of the stressful situation for a while and see things more clearly. So, next time you start to feel stressed, take a short break away from your desk.
- Prioritise Your Workload
If you’re trying to complete multiple tasks throughout the day, and you have deadlines coming at you from every angle, prioritising your workload can be a big help. You should ask yourself what is most important and why it’s important. This will allow you to organise your work in order of importance, giving you some clarity on what needs doing next. It takes some of the chaos out of your work.
- Get Help
Sometimes, you need to take some time out and get some support. If you feel under immense stress and pressure, this is vital. Having an occupational health plan will offer you the support you need when you start to feel stressed. And if this happens time and time again, you should see your doctor and talk to them about what you can do to help yourself. Your boss also might be able to help by reducing your workload.
- Reduce Distractions
There are so many small distractions in the office that can make your day even more stressful. If you reduce the amount of distractions in the office, you might be able to reduce the levels of stress too. You should try to stop them from taking over your day and wasting your valuable time. You should check your emails less because this is something that we all do a lot, and it wastes a lot of time.
- Sleep Well
So many people fail to get a sufficient amount of sleep each night. This is something that has a big impact on your mood and wellbeing throughout the working day. So, make sure that you do everything you can to get at least eight hours sleep each night. You’ll then be in good enough shape to face the challenges of the day in a measured and considered way.
- Acknowledge Your Good Work
A lot of people are very keen to criticise themselves when they do something that they don’t think is good enough. But not so many people are quite so eager to acknowledge their own good work. This is a change that everyone should think about making. By recognising the positive things that you do as a part of your job, you will remind yourself of the value of the work you’re doing. It will stop you getting yourself down.
